I’d like to tell you a bit about ourselves. We both came from broken homes so when we met we were both wary about marriage. However we got on really well, we liked a laugh and joke. Eventually Shez moved in with me.

We decided to try for a baby and on August 28th 1990 we had our daughter Danielle. Every Christmas Danielle kept asking for a real baby and not a doll after receiving every doll under the sun. Once Shez had the all clear from abnormal cell we would try for another baby. 7 years later 9th September 1997 our Luke arrived.

We still avoided marriage, although Shez will say i am a romantic. I surprised her with holidays and a car on Xmas day. We moved house which needed a lot of work doing so we just carried on.

I then collapsed with severe stress and i was tough going but shez looked after me. After this there was no doubt she was the one for me but i knew shez was terrified of marriage. So i decided to do it myself, which meant becoming so secretive cos after 21 years she does now everything about me. So in February 2010 i went to our friend at Co-op travel in Brownhills, Tracey. I asked her how i go about marrying in Cyprus. Then good friend of ours who introduced me and Shez were attending their nephews wedding so they assisted me with things i needed to know. So between Tracey, Kath, Clive and Beck i set about planning a wedding. I went back to Tracey in the travel agents who put me in touch with the wedding coordinator at Tsokkos Hotels. I then had to start taking long walks with the dog while on the phone to Angela.

I knew the wedding ring would be easy as i know her size and she liked her Aunt Doreens so this was a mere task. The only thing was when buying the ring in Birmingham Shez phoned to ask where i was. I said Walsall so then she asked me to pick up some sandals for Luke. So then i went to Walsall because of the receipt for them and of course it had to say Walsall on the receipt.

Now i had to get Shez in to a wedding shop, so i went to the wedding shop in Cannock told them i would be bringing her in but she had no idea we would be getting married. While out shopping in Cannock i said to Shez lets just go for a nosy. While in the shop the ladies made notes of all the dresses she liked and the shoes etc. I arranged to go back to the shop and pay for everything a couple of days later.

The good friends brought all the items over to their villa in Cyprus. Shez thought she was coming on a holiday. We arrived on the 25th July 2010 but i decided we needed some sun before getting married so hence the marriage was the week after.

So on Monday 2nd August Shez is sitting in the lobby area of the hotel waiting for our good friends. Angela and the photographer were there and i proposed. Luckily Shez said yes and she cried. From then on Shez knew. Angela took over and we had a fantastic wedding.

Brides Story

Mick has always being a romantic, he actually got my attention by biting my bum whilst i was dancing!.

I am lucky i have had rings hidden by Mick for me to find, holiday tickets at Christmas and a car, but this has blown me away. People will think if i lived with him that long how didn’t she know, well they are right i was suspicious but i thought i was having a limousine at the airport or a cable car ride. The family have being threatening that for years. So i did not expect to be getting married.

Mick chose everything for me from my yellow sunflower bouquet to where we went for our photographs, a little church at Cape Greko. Everything was just perfect.

In all honesty it would have never have happened at home. Something would have always got in the way.

I can truly say what Mick has done for me was my ideal wedding and for that i love him even more.

Wedding Coordinators Words

As a wedding coordinator i can truly say this was one of the hardest weddings i have had to deal with. Holding secret telephone conversations with the groom. On arrival at the hotel the hotel staff were aware we had a surprise wedding and were told not to let anything out to the said couple. I did not even no what the bride looked like. I had meetings with the groom on a morning in a different hotel The Vrissiana [next door] he told Shez he was going to collect a daily paper. So we only had minutes to discuss things.

On the evening of the proposal i entered the hotel restaurant and asked the restaurant manager where they were sitting. I walked near the table so i could see the bride to be. From here i had all the necessary staff ready. We arranged a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of Champagne for when Mick had proposed to the bride. George the photographer and i were sat in the lobby area. When Mick proposed we took photographs of them both. I was so pleased when Shez said yes.

The morning after the couple attended the local municipality to complete their paperwork and from here it was all systems go. Shez was still in shock.

On the dream day they were both so relaxed just having a drink with the children. Danielle had her hair and nails completed. Shez just took everything in her stride and looked stunning. The whole day was spectacular. Not many dry eyes in the house.

The whole team were surprised how Mick had managed to keep everything a secret for so long. All at Tsokkos hotels would like to say well done Mick for keeping all a big secret and also Shez for being a stunning bride. We wish you both all the very best for your future years together.
